The Tanunda and Nuriootpa Bowling Club’s ‘Open 3 Bowl Supa Triples Weekend’ gave players and friends the chance to break the bind with the constant Covid cautionary cares with the event finally taking place for the second year in a row. Plans are to continue with this event annually to show what our beautiful Barossa has to offer not only to bowlers but also to the Adelaide community as a whole.
Teams were invited to take part in this weekend of “Come stay and play in our beautiful Barossa” attending from as far as McLaren Vale in the South and from Loxton in the North as well as Brighton, Henley Beach, Payneham, Prospect Broadview, and of course Nuriootpa and Tanunda. Fourteen teams entered the Nuriootpa games on the Saturday and sixteen teams the Tanunda event on the following Sunday with most teams playing both days. The two days were a great success bearing in mind that some teams were unable to attend due to the new Covid variant.
The three games of ten ends began at Nuriootpa Bowling Club on Saturday 30th April organized by their Tournament Director Andrew Booth followed by the second day on May 1st at the Tanunda Bowling Club organized by Tournament Director Jim Yates. Both Clubs provided sumptuous meals for the two days of games with their own raffle tables donated by their members and locals with an abundance of prizes won during the draw.
Both Tournament Directors were pleased with the efforts of their club members and helpers who assisted them with the preparation for this event and especially for all donations to the table raffles and the event sponsors. The Major sponsor for the Nuriootpa Bowling Club was Barossa Kia of 8 Murray Street, Nuriootpa who offered the keys to a Kia Stinger GT for a weekend.
Jim Yates of the Tanunda Bowling Club with the help of Mike Schmidt also organized a monster major raffle. First prize is the use of a Ford Mustang for 24 hours from Barossa Ford of 30 Murray Street, Tanunda. Wally Hearn organized the two nights accommodation at the Wine Vine Hotel Tanunda, the $100 Voucher from 1918 Bistro & Grill Tanunda plus the second prize of a $200 voucher for Barossa Weintal Tanunda. Tickets for this major raffle are available from Tanunda Bowling Club and their members as well as the showrooms at Barossa Ford of 35 Murray Street Tanunda.
The raffle will be drawn at the Tanunda Bowling Club Chicken Dinner held at their Clubrooms on Saturday June 18th 2022. Bookings for this dinner are essential. Contact Tanunda Bowling Club’s Lorna Schiller on 0438844116 for details.
The winning teams at Nuriootpa and Tanunda of the three triples games played each day received their team prizes at each club. A Bonus Cash Prize and a perpetual trophy for the two day overall winning team was presented to the Nuriootpa team comprising Stewart Forbes, Robert Booth and Geoff Langley, at Tanunda Bowling Club on the final day of competitions.
